Synopsis:

In CLYDE’S, a truck stop sandwich shop offers its formerly incarcerated kitchen staff a shot at redemption. Even as the shop’s callous owner tries to keep them down, the staff members learn to reclaim their lives, find purpose, and become inspired to dream by their shared quest to create the perfect sandwich.

Pay attention to: The notes in the front of the play describing the shifts in colors and textures. Characters all have been incarcerated in the past. Most of the characters tell their story on why they were incarcerated. Raphael is a recovering addict. Jason has white supremacist tattoos on his face. Clyde slabs and grabs Jason’s butt. Letitia hits Raphael. Raphael and Letitia kiss. Clyde and Jason almost come to blows before the altercations is stopped.

Production Notes: Adult language is used pretty frequently as well as some sexual language. The play takes place in a commercial kitchen that includes a grill where meat is grilled and also a fry station. Sandwiches are created and consumed throughout the play. Clyde smokes frequently and extinguishes cigarette in sandwich. There has to be a window where the food is delivered and picked up and order tickets can be posted. Clyde can be seen and interact with the people in the kitchen from there.  Clyde drinks beer. Raphael lifts up his shirt to reveal a large bruise.
