Jordan-Yvonne Hermitt was homeschooled from 2nd grade to 12th grade (skipping 8th) and is currently a rising Senior at Wesleyan College in Macon GA. She has been performing since she was 10 or 11 and is currently getting her bachelors degree in Theatre. Live Arts Theatre is proud to present Miss Jordan-Yvonne in the roles of Eve (act 1) and Mama Noah (act 2) in Children of Eden.
Her answers to our interview questions reveal an interesting and multilayered young woman, much like the characters she is playing. Let’s take a look:
Q. Is this your first show with Live Arts? If not, what are some of the other shows you have done with us?
A: This is the first Live Arts show I’m performing in, but my mother and I have been costuming for Live Arts for a little over a year now.
Q: What is your dream musical role?
A: I pretty much covet anything Audra McDonald has done. I really want to be Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson; I don’t care if they’re male roles. I desperately want to play the queen of the night one day. Must. Stretch. Vocal. Range. A COUPLE MORE NOTES!!!!
Q: Name two fun facts about you.
A: 1. I love all forms of art, especially if it tells a story. I have a deep love for any type of storytelling. I love it when there’s something new or special about the way the story is being told, and when it’s done well. I love podcasts, tv, movies, video games, illustrative art (yes that counts), music, comics (physical and web comics), regular books that I can hold…I especially love reading! Seriously, it’s what I do with a solid 2/3 of my time.
2. Uhh… also I’m a giant fangirl… it goes with the whole story telling thing… I’m not very interesting.
Q: How does your character compare to you?
A: Eve is very excitable and has what I like to call extreme tunnel vision; once she’s interested in something it would take something supremely more interesting to distract her from it. Mama Noah is almost the exact opposite, she’s very grounded and she notices everything but she, unlike Eve does so quietly and assesses a situation thoroughly before she acts or even speaks.
My personality oscillates somewhere between the two. I tend to be a deep thinker but I don’t have much of a filter or impulse control. I have moments of extreme focus but I’m usually thinking so many things at once that thoughts tend to interrupt each other and get lost in the recesses of my mind. I think of myself as a true ambivert I have periods of both extreme extroversion that quickly switches to extreme introversion with periods of completely anti-social. It all really depends on the day with me.
You can catch Jordan and the rest of the talented cast of Children of Eden through July 31. Ticket information is available here.
