Meet the cast of The Spoon River Project- Barbara Macko

barbaramackoBarbara Macko has a Bachelor of Music Education from SUNY Potsdam, and a Master of Music Ed from Louisiana State University School of Music. She attended the Alliance Theatre Acting Program, and has worked with numerous other instructors and coaches. Her performance resume is vast! Recent performances include Molly/Delores/Ensemble in The Full Monty at Atlanta Lyric Theatre, Ensemble in Young Frankenstein at Atlantic Lyric Theatre, and Agatha in Guys and Dolls, also at the Lyric. She has performed in Georgia, Louisiana, and New York. We at Live Arts Theatre are honored that she is about to grace our stage as Actress 5 (playing several roles) in The Spoon River Project.

Let’s get to know her a little better through her answers to our questions:

Q: Is this your first show at Live Arts, and what other shows have you done with us?

A: No, I’ve done “Don’t Drink the Water”, “Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know” and “The Importance of Being Earnest.

Q: What attracted you to audition for The Spoon River Project?

A: I normally perform in musicals so I wanted the challenge of being in this type of a play. I am honored to be a part of this production and am thrilled to have the opportunity to be in a play where I can display my acting chops!

Q: Name two fun facts about you?

A: I got married to Jeff Macko on January 1, 2011 at 1pm: 1/1/11 at 1pm!!, Jeff & I are avid Disney World fans!!

Q: What is your approach to playing multiple characters?

A: Learning the background of each character and trying to find unique traits about each whether it be age, speech patterns, family background etc.

Q: Why should audiences come see The Spoon River Project?

A: It is going to be a very interesting production done in black box, presentational style with the audience very close to the actors.

Q: What, if any, special challenges are presented when bringing 19th century poetry to life on-stage ?
