We are delighted to welcome Charles Hannum to the Live Arts Theatre Stage. While he is new to us, he is no stranger to the metro Atlanta theatre scene. Some of his recent acting credits include Bannister in Inherit the Wind (Georgia Ensemble Theatre), Capt. Southard in The Caine Mutiny (New Dawn Theater), Van Helsing in Dracula (The Dancing Goat Theatre), and Giuseppe in A Slight Case of Murder (New London Theatre).
Mr. Hannum studied theatre at Ohio Wesleyan University and also studied voice under Mariam Duckwall at Michigan State University. He will be playing Actor 2 (multiple characters) in The Spoon River Project. We are thoroughly enjoying working with him and enjoying the wealth of his experiences. Meanwhile, he was gracious enough to answer a few questions for us to share with you, our audience:
Q: Name two fun facts about you:
A: 1. My 1st entrance, ever, in drag was at age 7 in a skit by the Brownie Scouts to replace a 7 yr. old girl suddenly sick with mumps;
- 2. One-a-week summer stock at Michigan’s Petoskey Playhouse playing 6 different dumb cops — the director usually said, “I’ll go for type: Hannum”.
Q: What is your approach to playing multiple characters?
A: To find the spine of each character and go from there.
Q: Why should audiences come see The Spoon River Project?
A: The Spoon River project is a symphony for words.
Q: What if any special challenges are presented when bringing 19th century poetry to life on stage?
A: Dead people talking about being dead and deadly lives can be a downer.
We at Live Arts Theatre invite you to come and enjoy the talents of Charles Hannum and our other wonderful actors of The Spoon River Project. Get your tickets now at this link.
