Live Arts Theatre is glad to introduce Lauren Megan McCarthy to our audience. She has numerous acting credits that includes Caitlin Gabriel- The Library at Out of the Box Theatre, Shelby Eatonton- Steel Magnolias, and Mary – Minor Deposition (a one woman show). Lauren is Actress 1 (playing several characters) in The Spoon River Project. Here are her answers to our probing questions:
Q: Is this your first show at Live Arts Theatre?
A: Yes.
Q: What attracted you to audition for The Spoon River Project?
A: The Spoon River Project is a hauntingly beautiful piece. It draws out the rawness of our human nature, and manifests how we shape each other as much as ourselves.
Q: Name two fun facts about you?
A: 1. I moved to Atlanta a year ago from Michigan. 2. I’m a natural blonde.
Q: What is your approach to playing multiple characters?
A: Treating each character as an individual with a unique core truth that drives them.
Q: Why should audiences come see The Spoon River Project?
A: Because this show is complex and painfully real in the most captivating way. You’ll be drawn in and attached to these characters before you even realize it.
Q: What if any special challenges are presented when bringing 19th century poetry to life on stage?
A: I believe the challenges are also the parts that make this show so powerful. The rhythm and flow of the lines draw out a natural instinct from me. I feel propelled by the momentum.
