If you haven’t seen Mary Snowden on stage yet, you are in for a treat. We loved having her in Cabaret, where she commanded the stage as Fraulien Schnieder! We also love that she comes to just about every show Live Arts Theatre presents and helps to manage our house, sell tickets, and do concessions. She is a constant source of information and a great connection to the community for us. We just love Marty.
Marty Snowden holds a BFA in Drama from UGA and had honed her craft in the community for many years. She has helped to run community theatre, directed, and acted. Marty is playing Actress 3 (numerous characters) in The Spoon River Project. We are pleased that Marty allowed us to pick her brain and to share these little tidbits with you:
Q: Is this your first show at Live Arts Theatre, and what other shows have you done with us?
A: Don’t Drink the Water – Agent Burns, The Importance of Being Ernest – Lady Bracknell, Cabaret – Fraulien Schneider.
Q: What attracted you to audition for The Spoon River Project?
A: The director (Becca Parker) and the music.
Q: Name two fun facts about you?
A: 1. My father’s name was James Edward but he hated his middle name…. The Edward. Snowden is also not the ice skating snowman. 2. I gave my first performance at age 5 at Victory Heights. (My cousin was Principal.)
Q: What is your approach to playing multiple characters?
A: Schizophrenia
Q: Why should audiences come see The Spoon River Project?
A: To have a good time and enjoy the good old songs.
Q: What, if any, special challenges are presented when bringing 19th century poetry to life on stage?
A: Walking in a long skirt and 5 pounds of underwear.
