Becca was happy to share these tidbits with us about the upcoming show:
Q: What attracted you to Fiorello?
A: I picked the show because it’s rarely done, and the tunes are very catchy.
Q Name two fun facts about you:
A: 1. I grew up in NH. 2. I love Christmas lights.
Q: What is your dream acting role?
A: What musical would you most like to be in? That’s a tough one. I’m working on a concept for both Mamma Mia and Jesus Christ Superstar as a director. As an actor I’d love to do Pippin, Sunset Boulevard, Cats, and Gypsy.
Q: What makes Fiorello! different from other shows you have done? It’s a classic musical. I’m normally drawn to the more contemporary edgier shows, and Fiorello is one of the few classics I really enjoy.
Q: Fiorello! is based on a true story of an honest politician taking on a corrupt establishment. How does this resonate with you as you prepare for this show?
A: Given the current state of politics in this country, Fiorello LaGuardia as a character is a refreshing change. Currently, there’s dishonesty and a sense of elitism (the rules apply to you as a voter, but not to me as a representative) from many folks on both sides of the aisle. Fiorello is actually an honest politician, who holds himself to the same standards as the people he represents. I think the show represents a different age, and that Fiorello himself represents fairness above all else, and that’s a place we as a nation would love to find again.
We at Live Arts Theatre strongly encourage you to come see this one of a kind show, Fiorello! This is a Tony Award Winning Show from 1960 that tied with The Sound of Music in the 14th Annual Tony Awards. There was a brief Off-Broadway run last year by the Berkshire Theatre Group as well as concerts in 2013 and 1994. Come see Fiorello! and be a part of the excitement.
The show runs weekends, from July 14 to July 29. Get your tickets now. We are still operating out of the Belfry Playhouse (inside Norcross Presbyterian Church), but Fiorello! will be performed in the sanctuary, just inside the front door. The address is 3324 Medlock Bridge Rd Norcross, GA 30092.
