No experience necessary, Come and audition!

It is not unusual for Live Arts TheatFilm-Directors-Chairre to cast a brand new to the stage actor in the lead of a show. It is also not unusual to have a brand new person back-stage doing lighting, sound, costumes, or props.  You just never know. At the same time, if you have been away from the stage for a while and are looking to warm up your acting chops or build your acting or tech portfolio, Live Arts Theatre is the place for you!   So… come on out and audition on Saturday August 6, 2016 10am to 4pm.

The theme of the season is DEATH AND TAXES, and we are looking forward in casting actors, both amateur and seasoned into our shows as we explore the realities and inevitable nature of life.

You can audition for all our shows at once. Our directors will have the opportunity to cast their shows or call actors back from season auditions. By auditioning now, you can get on each directors short list, and also begin to fill your acting calendar for the year.

We are seeking actors, stage managers, technicians and musicians.

Please prepare: Two one minute contrasting monologues and a song that best shows off your voice if auditioning for a show that requires you to sing.

Please bring: A headshot/resume and a list of any known conflicts.

Dates and particulars for these shows are found here:  www.liveartstheatre.org/audition-schedule)

The Spoon River Project- Adapted by Tom Andolora, will be directed by Becca Parker and is our Festival Competition entry. You will be expected to travel to Augusta, GA on Oct. 15, if you are cast in this show.

In this beautifully haunting play based on Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology, the former residents of Spoon River examine life and the longing for what might have been. As the citizens reflect on the dreams, secrets, and regrets of their lives, they paint a gritty and honest portrait of the town as all of their pasts are illuminated.”

“The Charles Dickens holiday classic comes to life as a live 1940s radio broadcast, complete with vintage commercials for fruitcake (extra-fancy), and the magic of live sound effects and musical underscoring. A handful of actors bring dozens of characters to the stage, as the familiar story unfolds: Three ghosts take Ebenezer Scrooge on a thrilling journey to teach him the true meaning of Christmas. A charming take on a family favorite that will leave no one saying “Bah Humbug!”

Rumplestiltskin- Adapted by Jack Neary, is our Childrens’ show for this year. Production dates are January 20- February 4. Rehearsals begin in November, with no rehearsals during Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. Here is a little teaser:

“This is a truly nutty and funny adaptation of the classic fairy tale, with a great, great role for a comic actor as the lead. Again, the Misdirected Theatre is involved, with Margaret, Ozzie, Larry, Cynthia, Jason and Warren the UPS guy all participating. This time, though, there’s no waiting for the Misdirected Players to show up. Margaret and her troupe have formed their own company, the Theatre In A Trunk players, and they are fully prepared to tell the exciting story.”

Stealing Home- By Pat Cook, Directed by Becca Parker promises to be a a side-splitting endeavor.  The production dates are: January 28 and April 9, 2017 with shows running March 24-April 8, 2017

“You can’t judge a book by its cover!” Cecil tells Officer Doughberg as he tries to explain why he and his partner, Pug, were caught in a funeral home in the middle of the night. He figures to confuse the policeman with fast talk and mumbo jumbo. Actually, they were there to heist a few trinkets, which is what Doughberg figured all along. What nobody figured on was Beulah Meadows, the owner of the place, showing up and recognizing Cecil as her long-lost son, Jimmy Meadows, who vanished from an amusement park some 25 years earlier.

Fiorello- Book by Jerome Weidman & George Abbot Music by Jerry Bock Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, will be directed by Bill Pacer, with musical direction by Becca Parker and choreography by D Norris.  Production dates are May 20 – June 30 with the show running July 14-29, 2017.

We are very excited about next summer’s musical, and we even have a facebook page already dedicated, Fiorello Atlanta.  According to our director, Bill Pacer,

“Fiorello is about an almost honest Republican Politician who overthrew long time corrupt Tamminy Hall who had run NYC for over a century.” This show is based on a true story, where a politician stood up to a corrupt system and made things better for the little guy.
