Meet the director of Children of Eden – Scott Piehler

Live Arts Theatre is delighted to have Scott Piehler in the director’s seat again. Scott is an award winning broadcaster, an ex-High School Drama director, and a long time at-home Dad. His theatre background goes back to high school where he graduated from The New Hampton School with the school’s top theatre award, the Frederick Smith award. Children of Eden is the 10th show he has directed since 2014.

Scott can also be found directing and participating in shows all over town as the head of McKendree Players and at New London Theatre, to name a few.

Scott was glad to answer a few questions for us. Let’s get to know him a little better:

Q:  Is this your first show with Live Arts? If not, what are some of the other shows you have done with us?
A: I was in Whistle Down The Wind as a performer, Dracula as Producer and sound design, Dorothy Meets Alice as Director, and most recently I directed High School Confidential.

Q: What attracted you to Children of Eden?
A: I love Stephen Schwartz!
Q: What is your dream musical role?
A: King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar

Q: Name two fun facts about you.
A: 1. I am probably the best pinball player you know.  2. I am a freelance voiceover artist.

Q: What can audiences look forward to with Children of Eden and why should they come see it?
A: This show is normally done with a huge cast, but we’re turning it into a tight, small-ensemble piece with a heavy emphasis on storytelling

Q: While Children of Eden is a Biblical show, based on the book of Genesis, It has a universal and timeless message. What does this mean to you?
A: We are meant to be in relation with each other. Even when we disagree, we are family.
