Live Arts Theatre is proud to welcome Lee Jones to our stage as Mr. Morse in The Hot L Baltimore. He has an M.A. in English from UGA and is currently pursuing a PhD in English, specializing in modern American Drama at GSU. He also teaches English and Humanities for Perimeter College online GSU.
Lee has been acting since the age of 43, and has been in at least one show every year for the past 10 years. A few of his favorite roles have been Christmas Present, Capulet, Sam Nash in Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite, Ben Silverman in Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys (in which I was directed by Starshine, Our director for The Hot L Baltimore, and which is also mostly set in a hotel), and Mr. Beaver in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Here are his answers to our probing questions:
Is this your first show with Live Arts?
This is my first show with Live Arts, and I am enjoying every minute!
Hot L Baltimore is set in the 1970’s. (If you were alive) Name something you liked about the 1970’s.
I was alive in the 1970s, and I loved TV shows like All in the Family, The Jeffersons, The Carol Burnett Show, and M*A*S*H.
Name something about the 1970’s that you would bring back and why.
I’d bring back big city hotels where people could live long term and that had real lobbies and ersatz families even though I realize those places were in decline already. Nothing has emerged to replace them; extended stay motels don’t even come close.
Name two fun facts about you.
I make my own jams and jellies from scratch, and I am related to the late Southern humorist Lewis Grizzard.
What can audiences look forward to with Hot L Baltimore and why should they come see it?
Audiences at Hot L Baltimore can look forward to a production with tons of energy and seventeen different interesting characters who are all fully realized and non stereotypical.
